Does Twitter do a business good? The Sweet Week

Business name: check. Business email: check. Business website: check. Business Twitter account? Um, eh, well...

Social networking can be overwhelming. Between Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, this new form of networking and marketing can be confusing and time consuming, but I'm telling you: it's worth the effort.

Each Tuesday, I'm going to share with you a sampling of some New Jersey companies, organizations and entrepreneurs who have embraced Twitter and made the social networking site work well for them. And you'll hear from different "Tweeps" to learn how Twitter works for them. While you're browsing the list below, take a look at the quality of their Tweets and frequency of @ replies. It's not just about making announcements and sharing links. It's also about customer service and keeping a constant dialog and communication with your "followers."

Today I'm heading up to Mara's Bakery & Cafe in Denville to help with the Backpacks 4 Kids pickup with The United Way of Morris County. This was a joint effort that came about because of Twitter. I posted a flyer about Backpacks 4 Kids in Mercer County and Nikola, of Mara's, @ replied me asking how they could be involved. And the rest is history. I'm so excited to finally meet Ian (the owner) and Nikola in person and only hope that Twitter opens more doors between people, businesses and organizations.

Here are some more tasty Tweeps around the state:
CakeBossBuddy: Buddy Valastro, TLC's Cake Boss in Hoboken
Sweet Avenue Bake Shop: Boutique Vegan Cupcakery in Rutherford- Also offering Gluten-Free & Soy-Free!
Pink Cake Box: Custom wedding cakes, cupcakes and cookies in Denville

I've been able to help people with tech questions and even sold products to them without the store being open. The best part so far is that it has torn down the barriers & let us build relationships with people that may have chosen one of our competitors.
