Cheerios features bloggers photos in hunger campaign and launches video contest

A few months ago, I joined a team of bloggers who were helping General Mills and Shop-Rite Partners in Caring send boxes of cereal to local food banks in the NJ-PA-NY area.  The task was simple: blog about the "Blog it Forward to Fight Hunger" campaign and get 30 people to leave comments at the post. No one had to pay out of pocket; no one had to send anything in the mail or attend an event. All it took was a simple comment on a blog to help feed thousands of hungry families in our own country.

Well I'm pleased to announce that because of our efforts, 3,000 boxes of cereal were sent to food banks in the Shop-Rite trading area!

To thank us bloggers for our efforts, General Mills produced a special Blogging Against Hunger Honey Nut Cheerios box with a mosaic of our faces making the face of a little girl on the back.  The boxes are available in all Shop-Rite locations in the North East.

Now you have a chance to help int he fight against hunger.  ShopRite Partners In Caring, together with General Mills, has launched a video contest, Expressions of Hunger, that challenges everyday people to submit videos using song, poetry, dance or dramatic reading that creatively express the plight of the hungry or offer solutions to the issue of hunger.  Up to six grand prize winners will have their stories and photos featured on a special-edition Cheerios box available exclusively at ShopRite stores in September 2010!

Just visit www.expressionsofhunger.com for the complete contest rules.  The contest is open for submissions through March 1, 2010.  Be creative, have fun and pass it on!

Wasn't that fun? I was on the same box with you! I thought that was a great campaign, and was so excited to see how much food was donated!
