On Occasion, I would drive through Manville, NJ on my way home from work and take Finderne Ave to Main St. Manville (that takes me to River Rd through Hillsborough and Montgomery and then to Canal Rd to get to Princeton). I've always wondered what the history behind Finderne was-a person perhaps? So I did a little internet research and found out that Finderne is not just a street, it actually has its own zip code!
A sector of Bridgewater, NJ, Finderne was a stop on the New Jersey Transit railway system for the Raritan Valley line and was only discontinued last year (the picture above is a 1967 photgraph courtesy of the blue comet.com) The station was accessible from the Finderne Ave. bridge which was the connection between Manville and Finderne (the one they are currently doing construction on). Railway conductors also confirmed that people actually stopped at the station, but were mostly industrial plant workers.
So now the next time you drive by or on Finderne Ave, you'll be a little wiser!
Finderne is not just a road
