Wrapping Presents: Easy and Elegant Bows

This past weekend, I needed a nice looking bow to spruce up very lovely looking Ann Taylor gift box and after some quick improvisation, I came up with a really easy and elegant looking bow. Follow these steps to achieve the same look.

You will need: about 3 yards of thin ribbon, preferably wired. This bow is measured for a large gift/department store box.

Step 1: Fold the ribbon in half. With the loop end at the bottom of the box, wrap the ribbon around the middle of the box.

Step 2: Slide the open end of the ribbon through the loop and adjust so that the loop end is about 3/4 of the way up the box (see Fig. 1 and 2).

Step 3: Once you slide both open ends through, split the ribbon apart and wrap the ends around the top corners of the box to create what looks like butterfly wings (see Fig. 3 and 4)

Step 4: When you bring the ends back together, cross them behind the middle and then tie a knot so that the ribbon is tightly in place. You may have to hold your finger in place while you tie the pieces together.

Step 5: From there you can tie whatever ribbon style you like and cut the ends to whatever length you like.
