It's like a cross between Enya and Imogen Heap(download Hide and Seek). Listen for yourself. I kinda like her, but I wonder if all of her songs will have that voice effect or if she'll change it up. Surprising, but nice.

Telemarketer ID'd!

Thank you to Tim's Blog for helping me figure out what company keeps calling my house!

If you receive a call from 402-593-7107 and it comes up as "Out of Area," it is Omaha Steaks Inc.

Here's another number that keeps calling: 1-800-301-9772

I just decided to register my number with the National Do Not Call Registry. It's a .gov site so I'm assuming it's valid and helpful.

Work-from-home income opportunity for people who can use a computer

Are you someone who is always giving computer advice? Are you the resident techie in your family? Or are you just so frustrated from trying to make an Excel spreadsheet that you need someone to help you?

Which ever one it is - I think you will find a solution for yourself on the Crossloop website (www.crossloop.com)

Crossloop is a free screen sharing tool which anybody can use with anybody else. It was started as a free way for families to share their computer screen with each other and help each other with computer problems. This is still possible right now. Instead of more text, here is a great video demo of how this tool works:

http://www.crossloop.com/ipage.htm?id=movie

Back in April Crossloop added their Crossloop Marketplace website release. This is a really neat part which I think is a great way for stay home moms and dads to earn a little cash on the side (if they are experts at something related to computers) or get help if they need help or training with a particular issue on a computer.

Any expert out there in the world with any skill can create a profile and sign up on the Crossloop website for free to market their own skills. With help of the Crossloop application you can help other people and perhaps earn a little cash on the side. Crossloop does have a PayPal button integrated into their website now, so the payment sending from helpee to the helper is easy. On the contrary you do not have to charge the helpee anything if you do not want to.

For example if you are a mom blogger who is an expert at setting up blogs you can help other mom bloggers set up and administer their blogs. If you are an expert at Photoshop, you can help
others with fixing up pictures and photographs. Whatever it might be, if you got the skill, you can make some money on it. You can do this at your own time, from your own house, and you can pick your own work hours as well!!!

Crossloop website is more or less a large database of many experts with various skills. Users can type in the keywords of the problem they are having, and simply find experts who have experience with this product or issue. This brings me to the next point- you can get help here!!! You know it just like I do, we all need help at some point or another! Just like it goes in that song: "We all need somebody to lean on!".

If you are a mom or a dad or anybody really, and simply need help with a computer issue. You can call up your son, or brother, or a friend and have them use Crossloop (just like in the video demo above) to help you for free (hopefully if they are no stingy). But if you do not know any computer geeks, go to www.crossloop.com and simply search for some help there. Type in the keywords of what you have an issue with, for example, "antivirus". You will then be presented with a list of search results with potential helpers which can help you. You can pick the helper from the many on the list and engage with them. If you want to see a video demo of how
this search functionality works on the website you can simply go to www.crossloop.com and just click on the Play button there.

I am an intern with Crossloop and use the service with my mother and grandmother!!! I live 3000 miles away, and this makes things unbelievably easy. No more hours on the phone troubleshooting issues. I just call her, ask her to give me her access code (which changes ever few minutes), and then I just access her computer and control it remotely. She sits back and watches what I do.

If any mom has a skill in anything computer related and wants to sell this skill, she can do so on our website. There are many tools and things people can use (for free) to market themselves.

If you are wondering about security, Crossloop has this covered. A connection cannot be established with Crossloop unless a user is present at both computers to initiate a connection and the user of the host computer must also click on the "Allow" or "Deny" button of a confirmation screen before control is given. All data is encrypted by Crossloop using 128 bit
Blowfish encryption at each end before being sent over the wire.

Crossloop was created for anyone with minimal computer skills to use, so it is incredible simple. There is a wonderful write up from A to Z with screenshots of how to download, install and run Crossloop here, I suggest you check it out here:

http://www.simplehelp.net/2008/07/11/using-crossloop-to-remotely-connect-to-
view-and-control-another-pc/

If you are interested more in how to make money with Crossloop Marketplace I suggest this really neat article by How-To-Geek here:

So go out there. search for help. or make some money.. Crossloop it people!

Thank you Mr. Wedding Guest Guy!

Last night Rob and I grabbed a drink at the Yankee Doodle Tap Room in Princeton. We have a special bond with the Nassau Inn/Yankee Doodle Tap room since our reception was held here. It's also a nice chill place to relax and enjoy a drink without being surrounded by the bar scene.

We were surprise to see such a big crowd there, but they were all having an after party from a wedding that day on the Princeton campus. While at the bar, we started talking to Steve (or he talked us up) and as we got ready to pay for my drink, he shook our money away and said he got it.

So thank you Mr. Wedding Guest Guy! (actually it was Steve from Ridgefield Park, NJ).

Josh Groban!

On Tuesday night, my friend Karen and I went to see Josh Groban at Continental Airlines Arena. I've loved him since his Closer album and just find him so gorgeous in many ways. His voice is astounding and his musical talent is endless (piano and drums). He opened with You Are Loved and closed with a 3rd encore playing a new song that he recently wrote. He was actually really funny too! He just seemed to alternate between funny guy and classical opera-pop voaclist in a snap. He also shook hands with people in the front rows. He defiitely takes the risk with having little security, but we love him for loving the fans.

Stupidly, I left my camera in my car and did not get any images or video, but when I figure out how to upload my camera vids online, I'll post them to view. So, in place of my pics and vids, I made a layout in InDesign as a lesson for my computer camp.

Suri and Katie style

I admit it..I'm loving the Suri and Katie sitings.
I love Katie's new bob and the 2 of them together is adorable.

Mom's Menu

My mom is a great cook. A skill she learned from her grandmother, she knows how to pair spices, bake heart shaped cakes, and put on a spectacular holiday dinner. We both love talking about food and she'll email me dishes she made or had and recreated so I can try them out. So, to spread the wealth, I'm starting a new weekly feature called "Mom's Menu" featuring recipes both new and old (i.e. the Christmas coffee cake she makes every year). Feel free to spin them your own way and share your thoughts.

My first entry is taken from a blog that I had started but realized that it just wasn't going to get as much attention as Mrs. Mo. The recipe is called "Nana's Irish Bread" and it is deeeelicious!

Irish Bread
"Nannie said that if they didn’t have the money they left out the currants. Very important to use a covered pyrex bowl & to wrap it foil while it’s still hot."

2 cups white flour
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
3 tsp baking powder
¼ cup sugar
½ cup raisins or currants
2 tsp caraway seeds

Mix all dry ingredients together

Preheat oven to 350.

1 cup buttermilk or soured milk. ( To sour milk, add 1 tbsp vinegar to 1 cup milk & let stand for about an hour. It will thicken.)

Add milk to flour mixture & mix until just blended. It will be sticky.

Grease a covered Pyrex dish. Add bread mix and cover. Bake @ 350 for 10 min & then @ 300 for 40 min. Remove from pan & while still hot, swab with butter or margarine. Wrap in foil.

Get Personal with a Papyrus Sale

The best marriage of carbonation and water

If you are trying to fit in your 15 gallons of water daily and need a burst of flavor and bubbles, then you have got to try Aquafina Sparkling! Aquafina was quickly becoming my favorite bottled water company and when they came out with the sparkling brand, I was so excited! I am a fan of the Berry Burst and prefer it to the Raspberry FlavorSplash because of the stronger taste (yes I am a sweetener junkie). I also like their silver label..catchy packaging.
Some sites will call this the newest diet soda. Technically, that's true since Seltzer water is considered soda.

I have yet to try the citrus flavors of any water, but I have read that the taste is not as artificial as the Berry Burst. And if that is your preference, have a go. If you are looking for some vitamins with your water, try the Aquafina ALIVE. I get the Pomegranate every week, but they also carry Orange/Lime and Peach/Mango.

5 AM = Fab Dresses

I was up rather early today for my day back to camp and I decided that since I had some time to kill before I left for work I would browse the TV. As I was scrolling backwards (I always start with F/X on 72), I was enticed by a collection of adorable and seemingly comfy dresses at HSN.com by Tiana B. The theme for the morning was animal print and wow were the dresses fabulous!

So while I had some downtime between lessons, I Googled Tiana B and found more dresses at Overstock.com that were not on the HSN site. More cuteness! I'm trying to save money but I seriously want the black colorblock dress or the zebra shift. I can't decide!

Here is what I like about Tiana B's dresses:

  • The A-Line shape is flattering for all shapes
  • The Shift dress is all the rage with celebrities, but hardly the same price
  • The Empire Waist of the Giraffe print is also flattering to hide a wide waist or larger hips.
  • Knit is so forgiving and comfortable as well as washable!
See for yourselves. You will not be disappointed!

Mrs Mo's Flower Pick: Gladiolus

One flower that is sure to grab attention at a party or your kitchen window is the Gladiolus. Also known as a Sword Lily, the Gladiolus is a genus of flowering plant in the Iris family and oddly enough is in the same order as Asparagus (though by looking at the flower and the veggie, you can see the resemblance). Because of its popularity, the flower has been "hybridized" to produce the many color varieties available to us in any local supermarket.

If you are growing Gladiolus at home, considering the following conditions:

            • Full sun
            • Keep out of wind path
            • Plant in Spring, blooms in Summer
            • Plant the corms every 2 weeks for full coverage

Click here for more information about Gladiolus including the various species of, bulbs, and artwork.

Finderne is not just a road

On Occasion, I would drive through Manville, NJ on my way home from work and take Finderne Ave to Main St. Manville (that takes me to River Rd through Hillsborough and Montgomery and then to Canal Rd to get to Princeton). I've always wondered what the history behind Finderne was-a person perhaps? So I did a little internet research and found out that Finderne is not just a street, it actually has its own zip code!

A sector of Bridgewater, NJ, Finderne was a stop on the New Jersey Transit railway system for the Raritan Valley line and was only discontinued last year (the picture above is a 1967 photgraph courtesy of the blue comet.com) The station was accessible from the Finderne Ave. bridge which was the connection between Manville and Finderne (the one they are currently doing construction on). Railway conductors also confirmed that people actually stopped at the station, but were mostly industrial plant workers.

So now the next time you drive by or on Finderne Ave, you'll be a little wiser!

Do You Canoe?

On Saturday, I had the 2nd annual Bucknell Club Canoe Day and it was perfect weather! (last year it started to thunder and we had to stop early). We gathered at the Princeton Canoe and Kayak on Alexander Rd and then had a picnic in Turning Basin Park afterwards.

Going for a Canoe or Kayak ride is such a nice and peaceful way to spend an hour or 2 on a gorgeous Saturday. We paddled north on the canal toward Washington Ave, but either direction is fine. When you get to the entrance, you sign a waiver and fill out a form selecting your boat and then you pick out paddles, life jackets, and pads for your butt if you want them. The staff helps you into the canoe or kayak and you're off! You pay after you return. For the Canoe, it was $13 for the first hour. You can view more of the pricing here. You can certainly bring your own boat and equipment as well.

If you like to canoe or kayak and are looking for places to paddle locally, here are a few to check out:

Lovely Bones to be filmed in PA!

I just read that Lovely Bones will film some of the movie in the book's setting: Norristown, PA. Filming will begin in October and will flip between New Zealand and Norristown. Click here to read more. If you want to audition, click here. Stay tuned for ads looking for extras!

Mrs. Mo's Review: Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold

I'm overdue for this review, but better late than never. Earlier this summer, over a 2-day period, I consumed myself with Lovely Bones, a heavenly perspective of life and the pursuit of justice.

In the first chapter of the book, we meet the narrator of the story, Susie Salmon, a young girl who was murdered and is in search of her killer. What a way to draw a reader in! Through the rest of the story, as told by Susie, we see the lives of those around her pass the months and then years without closure. Susie's death not only affected her family, but influenced classmates and members of the community. All the while, we experience her own transition into heaven full of fantasies but not short on restrictions. Though dead, she goes through growth period in her new world. I got a Defending your Life/Made in Heaven feel while reading...which is a good thing!

If you want an easy and compelling read for your August vacation, take Lovely Bones along. Read it before it becomes the movie that is already in pre-production. Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson has written the screenplay and will direct, and Ryan Gosling and Rachel Weisz are cast as Susie's parents (Though Gosling will need some heavy aging for his 27 year old self to be convincing). Newcomer Saoirse Ronan will play Susie.

Best Ice Cream on the Island

Last night, Rob and I made our overnight trip to LBI for some seafood and fresh beach air. We also made our regular stop at our favorite ice cream shop.

Hands down, the best ice cream in LBI can be found at the Skipper Dipper. Located across the street from the ACME and The Beach Theater, the Skipper Dipper usually a line wrapped around their patio. But it doesn't matter how long you wait, it's worth it. With an efficient assembly line, you move through and get what you want without a pang of impatience.

With over 30 flavors of ice cream and 29 soft ice cream flavoring, the Skipper Dipper appeals to everyone, including the weight conscious, like myself. My usual is Non-Fat, No Sugar Added Vanilla Soft Ice Cream with Peanut Butter flavoring and Chocolate Sprinkles. They also have tons of toppings to choose from and the always favorite Mix-Ins. Something for the whole family.

Stop in after a movie or dinner. Or just go for a cool respite from the sun and beach. Whatever your reason, GO!

New Jersey Harry Potter Release Parties

I have to admit that I am not a Harry Potter follower, but I can appreciate the excitement that is surrounding the release of the last and final book. I saw an ad for a release party being held in Princeton and then assumed that if Princeton is having a party, then there has to be others across the state. Here is a listing of the parties I found online. Contact your local library or chamber of commerce to see if your town is participating (or check out this Full State Bookstore and Library Listing):

Mrs. Mo is a Schmoozer!

I got tagged by my favorite playwright in NYC-Maria from the Baaaahh Project. She gave me the Schmoozer award given to bloggers who "know how to connect with people and are able to leverage those connections.” This is so very flattering especially since I feel like I'm still learning how to schmooze properly...especially with all of the appearances I have to make with my Bucknell Club.

So, in following tagging rules, I have to choose 5 other bloggers who have achieved the schmoozing art as well. Here we go:

  • Wonder Woman at Disjointed Intelligence speaks her mind and just happens to speak our minds too!
  • Elizabeth E at MomReviews tests out the latest products, books, and more. She gives detailed reviews getting her family involved in the process too!
  • The Everyday Weekender is your go-to place for everything to do for your weekend, or week long getaways.
  • ilker yoldas has a runaway hit with his Thinking Blog. He has an enormous fan base of thinkees following his posts, insights, and thoughts.
  • Finally, I'm giving my last schmooze award to the girls at A Girl Must Shop. I don't need to say much other than they find great pieces and, of course, this girl must shop them!

Stage 2 of my new career: Market Myself

If you read my "new career" post, you know that I am trying a new career but also working to build a new client base for tutoring in the Princeton area. I have my 2nd tutoring job tomorrow where the parent found my business card in town. So today I am venturing out in the Princeton area to post my business cards. I am marketing 2 types of services: Math Tutoring and Computer Tutoring.

My Math Tutoring will hopefully be my main source of income, but since I taught computers for a few years, I can offer that as well. I'm going to hit the most obvious places: food stores, libraries & post offices, but additionally, I will try out small businesses and cafes. I also found some interesting tips online: 1) Send your business cards with your bills and 2) Leave a business card with your tips at restaurants. I'll just have to do that!

If you're interested in designing high quality cards like mine, go to 123print.com and you can choose from hundreds of designs and fonts styles. A batch of 100 cards is about $4 (plus shipping and handling).

Wish me luck!

Princeton Sees Double

This Monday, NJ Transit will unveil the Double Decker rail for its official run on the Northeast Corridor line, the busiest train line in the state, which runs from Trenton to New York (stopping at Princeton Junction (my stomping ground).

The Double Decker trains, carrying 15% more passengers, had a test run back in Fall 2006 and now will be used for 6 trips a day: "inbound trips leaving Trenton at 6:03 a.m, 7:10 a.m. and 2:17 p.m. and outbound trips leaving New York at 10:28 a.m., 5:16 p.m. and 5:30 p.m." By 2009, NJ Transit will spend nearly half a billion dollars to purchase 279 cars.

This is great for the Northeast Corridor, but I'm sure my contemporaries along the Midtown direct line are still scrambling to find a seat or a comfortable standing spot on their route to work. In good time, my friends.

Rider Furniture: Floor Model Sale

This month, Rider Furniture is having a floor model sale on items from living room to bedroom. Rider Furniture is one of the top rated independent furniture stores in New Jersey offering a wide selection of high quality furniture, upholstery, and custom pieces and reasonable prices.

Rider carries Stanley, Hooker and Lane, to name a few, and also have their own Custom Shop. Rob and I got our bed from the Durham collection (the Savile Row Panel Bed) and hope to add to the collection soon. My favorite part of visiting the store is looking at the vintage posters and the country home ambiance. If you miss the floor model sale, don't fret. Rider often has sales throughout the year and will also have sales from their warehouse.

Mrs Mo's Veggie Pick: Yellow Zucchini

I'm a huge fan of all types of squash and zucchini, but I don't think I ever cooked or ate yellow zucchini before until this past week.

Last Saturday, I picked up a carton from the West Windsor Farmers Market for $3! That night, I sliced up the zucchini and grilled them along with some tuna (also purchased from the market). First I had them in a skillet with some olive oil, but then I just transferred them out of the oil and onto the the griddle/grill with the tuna to get crispy. Wow...were they good!

I still had 3 more full zucchini to go through for the week. I cooked them the next day with some Japanese eggplant and then another day just on their own in my broiler oven. Either on their own or with another veggie, the yellow zucchini stood out! Both my husband and I loved how they came out. I don't know if it is the yellow color, but the zucchini had a buttery taste to it. Sometimes, you can taste the garden with green zucchini, but the yellow is mild. I guess you could say it tasted how it looked.

It's 10pm , Do You Know Where Your Children Are?

I hope your children are home safe and sound in their home and lucky to be part of a loving family. I cannot believe how many new stories I have read this past week of parents killing or severely injuring their children. What is going on here! It makes me sick. Children are a gift; there are some loving and deserving people who cannot even have children. It's disgusting what people are doing and it has to stop.

Give your kids an extra hug. Give them a call. Say "I Love You." Keep them safe.

Lego My Wheat-Free Waffles!

I recently joined the Biggest Loser Online-Club and one of the frequent recommendations for breakfast is a waffle with fruit. Since I need to eat Wheat-Free foods, I thought that wasn't going to work and I would stick to my rice puff cereal. However, while I was shopping in The Fresh Fig Shop in Pennington, I saw these Van's Wheat Free waffles. I thought, what the heck, let's give them a try.

The next morning, I put 2 waffles (189 cal, 5 g of fat-0.5 g. sat, 5 g. fiber, 4 g. protein for both) in the toaster oven. I topped them with canned peaches, cinnamon, and just a drizzle of the regular syrup we had in the cabinet. I loved them. They were nice and crisp and light. I haven't had a real waffle in so long so I can't tell you the difference, but I'm sure the wheat free version is not as dense. You can always dress them up with the good fatty/sugary stuff like whipped cream, syrup and butter if you can't give up the entire experience. But try these for a healthy alternative. Your body will thank you.

The Fresh Fig is located on 1 Tree Farm Rd, Pennington, NJ, (609) 737-3447

Welcome back Vanilla Coke!

I know I'm a little late to notice this come-back, but I'm just so excited I had to blog about it.

My summer 2006 habit-Vanilla flavored diet soda- picked up speed again this week when I noticed a billboard advertising the new and improved Vanilla Coke and then saw the Coke Zero version of it in Acme. Bad for my habit and tummy, but great for my tastebuds! Thank you Coca-Cola for bringing back a good thing. If you bottled it into a lollipop, then you'd be in major business.

If you or someone you know works in New York City and wants to move to a New Jersey town that is near the train or ferry, I have a place for you! Believe it or not, South Amboy has become a destination for city professionals since it's redevelopment project started in 1999.

Since 1999, a new wave of redevelopment swept through New Jersey's Transit station towns to make use of vacant or underused land. Towns like Morristown, Belmar, Metuchen, New Brunswick and Journal Square/Jersey City have received grant money to improve their transit village and as a life-long resident of the Morristown area, I can totally feel the difference.

Like Morristown and New Brunswick, South Amboy received grant money to start a plan that Mayor John T. O'Leary had envisioned for his hometown. The plan was to bring back the vitality of the harbor town that had become vacant and a destination for bar hopping and strippers:

''We had 60 percent vacancy along Broadway,'' the town's central artery downtown, he said. ''The storefronts were boarded up and shabby, the sidewalks were in bad shape, the lighting was old and burned out. There were water main and sewer breaks all over town.''-New York Times article
"[He sought to] banish bars with exotic dancers in South Amboy, once listed in travel literature as having more bars per capita than any other city in the country."-NYT

With the bus, ferry, Garden State Parkway, and New Jersey Transit all within walking distance from the downtown, South Amboy is a hub for city transportation and a perfect location for a suburb life that many professional are looking for.

With the grant money, Mayor O'Leary started with a new school/library, a senior living facility, a downtown parking garage, and new stores and storefronts.

In 2001, a 136-acre Middlesex County park with a gazebo and playing fields was opened and new housing was erected in Lighthouse Bay-a community of townhouses and single-family homes with Victorian and New-England style architecture. Friends of ours lives in one of the single family homes. One word: Gorgeous!. Back in 2002, when the New York Times article was published, the homes ranged from from $411,990 to $455,990, now they are worth almost $1.3 million. Talk about resell value!

In addition to Lighthouse Bay, you will find another townhouse community called Harbor Village and brand new condos/townhouses called Beacon Pointe which are located just as you drive into town from Rt 9/Rt 35.

If you are currently neighborhood hunting and you want to be close to New York with the option of train, ferry or road, take a drive through South Amboy. Talk to the locals. Wander through Harbor Village and Lighthouse Bay. Stroll along the boardwalk or have a picnic in the park. You'll quickly start to feel at home.
