Love or Hate: Couture Coffee Sleeves

I was in line to get coffee at Wegman's the other day and noticed a zebra print coffee sleeve sitting in a basket towards the back corner. My first thought was, "oh that's kinda cool," but then I saw the price, $7.99, and thought, "do I really need another pointless accessory?"

The jury is still out if I really like these Cup Couture sleeves, but they are obviously picking up momentum in the fashion world. I saw them featured in this month's Redbook magazine. However, if the fact that they were in a basket in the corner of the coffee counter, then maybe they aren't hitting it big in Princeton.

Spring Trend: Lucite

One of the big trends this spring is the resurgence of Lucite jewelry. I was just so pleased to be ahead of the curve for once!

I purchased this necklace a few years ago and love how it's prim and proper like pearls, but edgy too! Unfortunately, I don't remember if I bought it at Claire's, Forever 21, or Target. However, this style is popping up everywhere.

This necklace is available at Shop Intuition.com for $35.

Here is another Lucite necklace available at Target.

Loving this look...for less

I found this look of Hilary Duff on Popsugar.com and was instantly on the hunt for a scarf like hers.

I did find something close enough on a weekend trip to Charlottesville. And although it was not in NJ, these "Pashmina" scarves are rather easy to find.

For a solid scarf, log onto Landau online or just visit the store on Nassau St. in Princeton.

Try Silk Pashmina which is based in Princeton;

Or check out Fashion Unic which a wholesale site with many styles available.

Just like LBI

During the summer, my husband and I would drive to LBI once a week to get a fresh seafood dinner. Luckily, we're only 1 1/2 hr from there and have a place to stay the night.

But, if you want a dinner just as good, stroll over to Boardwalk-Fresh Seafood Grill in Dayton. You can access their menu online and view some pictures of the place.

Since we should all get 2 servings of fish a week, this place would be sure to satisfy!

Prague is not just a foreign city....

It's also a fabulous handbag line that I found at Overstock.com.

I was on the hunt for a real leather bag and it didn't matter if it was pricey. I wanted quality. Of course, Overstock had something I liked! Now, I what makes me a little suspicious is that I can't find "Prague" anywhere else. Oh well, it's a great bag!

Here are some of the collection you can find. Click on the image to shop more:

Must Go Here

Day 2 of my search for good cheap eats and I stumble upon Tastee Sub Shop II on Rt. 27 in Franklin Park.

You can read the reviews for yourself, but I loved it. Quick assembly line(Subway-style), but the difference is that your meat and/or cheese is cut right when you order it as if you are ordering it by the pound at the deli counter. AND their 1/2 sub is about the size of a 12-in and it was only $4.35 (without a drink).

It's a small joint, but has decent parking in the back. It's location is just north of the Walgreen's on the left.

The first Tastee Sub Shop can be found on Plainfield Ave in Edison.

Must Go Here...

I started my mission to find some cheap yet good quality eateries today and stumbled upon Zagat rated Fedora Cafe on Main St. in Lawrenceville, NJ.

This place can hit the spot for whatever mood you are in. It's eclectic ambiance is a nice surprise being that it is across from a prep school. But maybe that's why it's so popular!

Here is more commentary on local gem that I am sure to take my husband to:

What I Want...

The Babydoll Tunic

I've been on a mission to find this since seeing in Lucky Magazine. Though I'm not a fan of the babydoll look of the 90s, the newer version of it is rather appealing. I found a good replacement at Alloy.com, but will keep searching.

Crab & Cabbage Soup

I was in the mood for boiled cabbage last night and made up a yummy soup that also had my other fav-imitation crab meat. I made it in the microwave (our stove has been disconnected since we had the kitchen remodeled).

Here is the rough recipe:
1:1 parts Veggie Broth and water (1/2 c ea. or 1 c ea)
2 big handfuls of chopped cabbage-shredded and just peeled off the head
1 package of imitation crab meat
1 broiler over tray of frozen Lima beans and gourmet mushrooms (bake until crispy and then add to soup as it is boiling)
2 Tbsp of basil and parsley flakes
salt for taste

There is no real structure to the way I make soup, but I started with the cabbage and broth. I waited until the water got to a good boil before I added in the crab meat. Once the crab meat started to separate and loosen up, I added the crispy Lima/mushroom mix. Towards the end-the last 3 minutes or so I added in the spices. Since I was using the microwave, it took awhile to cook. All-in-all, the soup took 15-20 minutes. But it is so fudge proof that you can make it how you like it.

Real Healthy Granola

My husband and I were visiting some friends in Charlottesville this weekend and the wife is a health nut like I am. She turned me on to this granola from a B&B they stayed at in MD.

The Stone Bow Inn in Granstville, MD is now offering their homemade granola for sale. One of the owners is a former ballerina, so you know it's good for you.

The ingredients include (1/2 c serving size: 120 cal, 12g fat, 1 g sat. fat): granola, walnuts, sunflower seeds, flaxseed, wheat germ, canola oil, honey, craisins, etc.

Ordering information can be found here.

If you liked "Zodiac"...

Summer of Sam (1999)
Directed by Spike Lee

This movie has the same premise of the affect that a serial killer has on a community. The movie is full on Disco era-sex, drugs, and dancing-starring John Leguizamo, Mira Sorvino, and Adrien Brody looking like one of the Sex-Pistols. This was the first movie I had seen him in. Such a good flick.
