Future Celebrity Trend Report

Winged Necklaces: I found this awesome necklace over at Liquorice-Allosaurs.com. I had gone through a butterfly craze in college (hence the butterfly tat), but I still think they are beautiful. This necklace is meant to look like a fossil and is handcrafted by the artist. The only con to this shopping site is that it's in the UK and isn't delivered as fast as US shipping. But I think something this unique is worth the wait!

Some other unique finds on L-A.com are:

The artist's personal blog is a look-book of her travels, interests, inspirations, and the landscape around her. It just makes you feel good ready along with her.

Happy Birthday Mommy!

MOM DON'T READ THIS POST!

Last month, I stopped into a Pennington shop called The Front Porch to get a jump start on birthday shopping (and make a mental wish list for myself).

There was so much to choose from, but I finally decided on a bracelet that I know I would wear. It's called a Pewter Heart Bangle and I got it for under $30.

For those readers who are not in the Pennington area, I found some similar bracelets based on style and theme(hearts).

Where is Sewaren???

Sometimes I ponder about posts for my blog during my hour long commute to work every morning. When I head home, I always want to drive a new route or visit a new town, but when I get in the car(for another hour), the last thing I want is an extension on my drive.
This morning I saw a commercial van drive past me with the business located in
Sewaren. Aha! There's my post!! So...where is Sewaren?

Here are a few facts about
historic Sewaren:

  • Section of Woodbridge Township
  • 1900s-big beach resort
  • Identified as Pierce's Landing and Boynton Beach, occasionally called Woodbridge Beach
  • Location of PSEG Generating Station
  • Cliff Road-Mid 19th-Early 20th century homes
  • Passage way for tankers heading for various foreign shores

More Gluten-Free Goodness!

I love dried fruit. More specifically, dried apricots. I knew that most dried fruit was gluten-free but I had to double check one of my favorite brands. And to my delight, it is!

Mariani Packing Co. is a family owned supplier of dried fruit. Their varieties range from apricots to plums to yogurt covered raisins (gluten free as well!)

I buy their apricots and cranberries (instead of Craisins) because the fruit is soft and juicy.

I found my proof of their gluten-free status from a product list put out by a celiac support group at Naperville Gastroenterology in Illinois.

I have found Mariani products at Super Fresh and Walgreen's. Enjoy!!

How is an iPod like a Baseball Cap?

They both can be used to cheat.

Kids think that they are being clever with their array of cheating strategies. What they don't think about is their wandering eye off their paper. Teachers can spot cheaters pretty dead on (at least if they are paying attention) thus making the cheating devices more hi-tech.

Enter the iPod. Most schools prohibit the use of electronic devices during the day as it is, but that never stops kids from texting each other in class or sliding an earphone through their clothes to hide behind their hair.

But now, according to Physorg.com, the iPod is being used as the latest cheating device. Out with the old, in the with new I suppose. And how did the writers of the article you'll read find out? The teachers! We hear you even when you whisper. Don't kids know that teachers have bionic eyes AND ears? Read on for more on the iPod cheater.

A Trip Down Memory Lane:1993-1997

My 10-year high school reunion is this weekend and I've been reminiscing over all the bad bad bad fashion choices I made, or maybe the Generation X made during my high school years.

We were strongly influenced by Grunge Rock(Nirvana, Pearl Jam) and the California style of 90210. Clothing companies like The Gap and J.Crew were HUGE at my school and every girl had the same Gap green plaid skirt. Wearing blazers were also very hip. The 1990s also introduced baby-T's and the babydoll dress which has come back in a much better way. Bright primary colors were also a popular contrast to the earth tones of grunge.

For Part 1 of my trip, I've searched for some fashion trends that originated and died out in the 90s. Some have resurfaced, in a much better form, and others will hopefully stay dead and buried!

Please add your own memories!!

Very Cool North Jersey Blogs

When I can't get out, I rely on other eyes and ears of New Jersey to inform. I found 2 great blogs that are geared toward North Jersey interest:

Go Out Jersey: Just as the name reads, this blog is all about things to do and places in eat in the Northern Jersey area.

Put best by the editors at GOJ:
Whether you've lived here all your life or are a recent transplant (or if you’re still living on the island that’s taller than it is wide, wondering if the grass is greener where… well, where there’s grass), this site will show you how to discover or re-discover the joys of being in Jersey. Yes, we said joys.

Hoboken 411: From restaurants to politics, this searchable community blog features everything you'd want to know living in the Hoboken area. Check out their pictures of the recent flooding. Crazy! Reminds me of Hurricane Floyd hitting Lewisburg while at was at Bucknell.

Minado-The ULTIMATE Japanese Seafood Buffet Restaurant

For the ultimate, and I mean ULTIMATE, sushi experience, you MUST travel to Minado. Forget the Chinese Food buffet trend. This is not only a healthy dining experience, but it is also aesthetically pleasing. It is amazing how much skill and artistry is abundant in the Japanese food culture.

Minado is Zagat rated and has received critical acclaim from major publications in the North East. Instead of trying to remember everything we ate, jut browse the menu. They also have a full-service bar offering beer, wine, a plethora of Saki and plum wine.

The 2 New Jersey locations are
Morris Plains on Rt 10 and Little Ferry on One Valley Rd.

Lois Hill for less

I've been eyeing a gorgeous hammered silver cuff bracelet in Lord & Taylor ads for sometime and found that the designer is Lois Hill. Now, I don't have the money to spend $515 and my husband wants to wait to get me something when we're in Bermuda (I won't argue!), so I found some decent contenders. If you are one who loves cuff bracelets and like the style of Lois Hill, browse on...

Amazon, $74.99

Novica, $89.95
